Botox (Brand name for Botulinum Toxin type A) is most commonly known as an anti-wrinkle treatment, but it also has many other uses.
As an anti-wrinkle treatment it is mainly used in the forehead, frown and eyes, crows feet. (3 Areas) The way Botox works is that it blocks nerve signals meaning that the movement messages cannot reach the muscle therefore temporarily reducing the movement.
Botox can also be used for facial contouring. Ways in which Botox can be used include:
-Bunny Lines
(vertical lines at the top of the nose)
-Gummy Smile
(reduce the appearance of the gum when smiling or at rest)
-Lip Flip
(alternative to filler, will increase the area of pink on show)
-Dimple chin
(reduce uneven texture of the chin when lips are downturned)
-Downward Smile
(reduce the appearance of the marionette lines)
-Platysmal Bands
(reduce the appearance of vertical lines produced when grimacing)
The graph above shows how long Botox will last.
Botox takes anywhere between a couple of days and 2 weeks to fully work. The effects are temporary and will last around 3-4 months (6 months for hyperhidrosis and Teeth grinding)
Over time the movement will return and the lines and wrinkles will reappear, however, the lines may be less severe as the muscles become conditioned to relax.
People who excercise regularly may find that the results don't last as long as the product is metabolised quicker.
Botox can also be used for Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) and teeth grinding. Both of these treatments last approximately 6 months.
Hyperhidrosis
Botox temporarily blocks the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands, when these signals are interrupted the sweat glands stop producing sweat in the treated area. The treatment lasts up to 6 months.
A common question is 'will I sweat more elsewhere?' The answer on the whole is NO. A small percentage, <5%, of people may experience sweating elsewhere, compensatory sweating.
Teeth grinding
Botox is used by targeting the masseter muscles, which are responsible for teeth grinding. The Botox temporarily weekens these muscles & reduces their ability to exert force &therefore clench & grind.
Dermal filler is an injectable substance which is used to restore volume, smooth out wrinkles and enhance facial contours.
Dermal fillers work by physically filling areas under the skin to add volume and smooth out lines.
Eye Emphasis uses a Hyaluronic acid filler which is a naturally occurring substance in the skin that attracts moisture.
Areas which can be treated with dermal filler at Eye Emphasis:
-Lips
-Naso Folds (nose to mouth)
-Marionette lines (lips to chin)
-Cheek lift
Microneedling is a procedure which uses a microneedling pen with fine needles to create tiny controlled punctures in the skin. These micro-injuries trigger the body's natural wound healing process, which stimulates the production of collagen and elastin. Collagen and elastin are two proteins vital for healthy, youthful-looking skin.
Microneedling can be used to treat:
-fine lines and wrinkles
-Acne scarring
-large pores
-Hyperpigmentation
-Uneven skin texture
-Stretch marks
-Scarring
Microneedling can be performed on the face as well as areas such as the stomach and thighs.
Several treatments are needed for optimal results but improvements will be seen after just one treatment.
Dermaplaning is a non-invasive procedure that involves using a sterile, surgical scalpel to gently scrape off the top layer of dead skin cells and fine vellus hair (often called peach fuzz) from the face. The goal of dermaplaning is to exfoliate the skin, leaving it smoother and more radiant.
Benefits are:
-Exfoliation
-Smoother Skin
-Instant results
-Gentle (unlike chemical peels/microdermabrasion)
-Application of make up is smoother -product absorption is greater.
Semi-permanent eyelash extensions are individual synthetic strands applied by isolating each natural eyelash and adhering to the natural lash with special adhesive. Unlike strip or (party) lashes, are not applied to the eyelids. Eyelash extensions are great for providing fuller, curvier and longer length to your natural eyelashes.
Here are 10 benefits of eyelash extensions:
1) Lash extensions will add volume to your natural eyelashes;
2) Lash extensions will enhance your eyes and your look;
3) Lash extensions will lift your lashes;
4) Lash extensions will add length and draw people into your eyes;
5) Lash extensions will not require use of mascara;
6) Lash extensions do not damage your natural lashes;
7) Lash extensions are water resistant;
8) Lash extensions feel lightweight and natural;
9) Lash extensions will add fullness to your natural lashes;
10) Lash extensions will give you unique and beautiful look.
If applied correctly, in a professional way, eyelash extensions will never damage your natural eyelashes. There are certain rules professional Lash Artists follow while applying eyelash extensions. Being able to do this properly takes extensive practice, attention to details and a dedication to perfection. Be sure you trust the education and experience of the professional you choose.
Also, inexperienced lash artists may make technical errors such as using too much glue, extensions that are too heavy, or attaching natural lashes to one another. Any of these errors can cause thinning of the natural lashes. If you feel the extensions, if they are heavy, uncomfortable, punching into your eyes, it means that treatment has been done incorrectly and best solution is to remove the extensions ASAP, before they do any damage to your natural eyelashes.
Most clients are good candidates for lash extensions, no matter what their concerns. We can choose the right curls, style and shape regarding to your personal features. However, the style our artists will help you create may vary depending on your natural lashes. If you are concerned book a consultation and patch test and your lashes and I can discuss a design that best suits your lashes.
Classic Lashes –are applied to your natural lashes in a 1:1 ratio. Classic lashes are perfect for a natural look, they will enhance your natural lashes.
Volume lashes— will give a fuller look and will give a more glamorous look. The level of fullness will depend on how many lashes per volume fan.
Hybrid lashes—these are a mix of classic (1:1) lashes and volume fans. These are great for a medium look or for someone who has few lashes or gaps in their lashes.
The term 2D, 3D, 6D etc. in the volume technique is used to describe how many lashes are in the fan or bouquet of lashes. 3D means 3 lashes are placed onto one natural lash; 6D means 6 lashes, and so on.
The lashes applied in the volume technique are thinner and lighter than the lashes applied in the classic lash technique. This means that although they look fuller they do not put extra strain on your natural lashes.
Your safety is most important, all new clients will require a patch test at least 48hrs prior to having their eyelash extensions, lash lift or tinting done. This is free of charge and takes around 10 minutes. For eyelash extensions two short extensions are applied to each eye to ensure there is no reaction to the adhesive. For a lash lift and/or tinting the products will be put onto the skin behind the ear.
Even if you have had eyelash extensions, lash lift or tinting before, you must attend the patch test as all adhesives, products and tints are different.
Reactions are uncommon but they do happen, it is also possible to gradually acquire an intolerance for the adhesive.
It may feel like an inconvenience but please consider the professionalism of the lash artist if they are not asking you to do a patch test.
It is not difficult to take care of your new lashes. You will be given “after care” instructions after your first appointment.
However, main things are: do not wet your lashes for 24 hours, do not rub or pull your extensions, do not apply any mascara or oily makeup products on them and in general follow all recommendations given by your artist. Also avoid heat, most lashes are synthetic and will lose curl when exposed to excessive heat even for a second, like opening the oven.
Everyone is susceptible to lash shedding, a natural occurrence that happens. Everyone looses lashes at a different rate but on average you should expect:
Week 1 – you may lose 21 lashes
Week 2 – you may lose 42 lashes
Week 3 – you may lose 63 lashes.
Natural eyelashes continue to grow, mature and shed in a continuous cycle. As lash extensions are bonded to natural lashes, clients new to lash extensions might assume it’s a direct result of having lash extensions. This isn’t the case at all. You will notice your natural shedding more with extensions due to the lashes being longer and thicker.
A full set of lash extensions will look great for the first few weeks, but as a result of the lash life cycle and general wear and tear, lashes will start to lose their pristine look. Infills are a necessity for anyone who wants to touch up. Infills are recommended every 2-3 weeks.
If you are not happy with your extensions from another lash technician, I am happy to help. However, I will have to remove all lashes and then do a new set for you. Unfortunately, I am not insured to infill other Lash technicians' work.
Many salons claim to offer eyelash extensions, but in fact provide application of a cluster lash. Cluster eyelashes can cause issues as they are applied to multiple eyelashes at once and the bases are usually bulky from the adhesive that holds them together, which causes follicle tension. Because lashes grow at different stages, the tension from the cluster can cause premature lash loss.
It may also be that the Lash technician is not fully trained and therefore these salons can charge lower prices for a quicker application of a substandard product.
Yes. Eye shadow and eyeliner is not a problem, however these must be removed by using oil free make-up removers. Wearing mascara is not recommended as many mascaras have oil in them, which can loosen the adhesive, causing your lash extensions to fall out much quicker.
One way to think of a lash lift is as a perm for your lashes. A lash lift alters the shape and colour of your lashes by semi permanently curling them upwards. The treatment gives you the appearance of fuller, thicker eyelashes. The natural lashes are boosted from the root giving them a lifted, lengthened appearance.
Brow lamination takes your unruly or thinning brow hair and smooths it out while also lifting the hair in a more vertical direction. The result is fuller-looking brows that stay in place when brushed into shape. These last around 6 weeks.
